Legend says that Galileo, by comparing the movements of a pendant lamp in the Cathedral of Pisa to his own heartbeat, discovered that the duration of the oscillations remained unchanged regardless of the amplitude of the pendulum, thus sensing a possibility to precisely quantify time.
But can time be measured directly? Does time really exist? What is time? Is time irreversible?
